![]() The manga and anime are a series of short standalone stories written around the treasures sought after by Jing. With a fast wit and a good heart, Jing pits himself against the selfish and unjust of the world in his quest for the ultimate prizes. Yet few suspect this boy is actually the mythical " King of Bandits", a Phantom Thief capable of stealing any valuable no matter how rare or well-guarded it may be. His travelling companion is Kir, a wisecracking albatross with a penchant for beautiful women. Jing is an enigmatic young wanderer living in a surrealist world of fantasy and treasures aplenty. The manga was adapted into a Thirteen Episode Anime by Studio DEEN in 2004. A sequel manga series, known as Jing: King of Bandits: Twilight Tales outside of Japan, ran in Magazine Z from 1999 to 2005. Score: 8 out of 10 imageUrl=http%3A%2F%%2Fdvd%2Fimage%2Farticle%2F834%2F834558%2Fjing-king-of-bandits-seventh-heaven-20071112032931991-000.King of Bandit Jing is a manga series by Yuichi Kumakura, which originally ran from 1995 to 1998 in Comic Bom Bom. ![]() There's a little bit of CG mixed into the design, and the exteriors and dream-worlds Kir and Jing appear in look very impressive. For the most part, the anime is slick and nicely done. well Kir likes the girls more than anything.Īll three parts of the OVA are presented in anamorphic widescreen format. Jing is a person who treasures his friends and the happiness of others, and Kir proves himself as a true friend and reliable ally to Jing that will stick with him through any danger. This part of the story was a nice, simple way of showing the true essence of Jing and Kir as characters and who they really are. We meet Jing and his young friends, and Cassis, a girl who appeared to really like Jing. Kir is still in his egg but still a blabber-mouth who loves the girls. The story flashes back to a young Jing, who meets Kir for the first time. ![]() The most interesting segment is in part 2. without having to drop acid the anime does it for you. I'm hesitant to say the show is like an anime acid-trip. Considering that Kir and Jing are trapped in dream scenarios created by Campari, they find themselves in quite strange, amorphous, and downright trippy environments. ![]() This "Jing and Kir go to prison" story is rife with imagery that would make Freud go mad as well as delight filmmakers such as David Lynch and Stanley Kubrick. Jing, who has no trouble maneuvering through the prison and is not intimidated at all by the angry warden, Maraschino, matches wits against not only the prison of 7th Heaven but the prison-like dream-world of Campari as well. Howver, Campari doesn't seem to have a problem with it, after the experience of a terrible loss. Campari was able to magically collect dreams into orbs and sell just about any kind of dream to whatever anyone desired, but he is also now locked up in 7th Heaven. Jing's not stressed since he sees a challenge in finding the treasure of the wizard/dream peddler Campari. In this single DVD volume, which contains all three OVA (Original Video Animation) episodes, Kir and Jing find themselves locked up in the 7th Asylum a.k.a.
